Karnataka State Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development Bank director Y. Sonne Gowda urged cooperative sector banks to work efficiently in order to compete with the commercial banks.
He was inaugurating a workshop organised for the officers and staff here on Saturday.
The cooperative banks should not be confined to lending loans. They should proliferate their activities to generate income, Mr. Gowda said.
Cooperative sector will develop only when government facilities reach farmers through cooperative societies and banks, he said. Officers and staff have an important role in it to play, he added.
Cooperative Societies additional inspector A.C. Diwakar and retired assistant inspector P.M. George delivered lectures on the occasion.
