A 24-year-old woman and her two-year-old son were killed on the spot when a lorry ran over them after knocking their motorcycle down near Bangalore International Exhibition Centre in Nelamangala on Monday. The bike rider, identified as Suresh, escaped unhurt. According to the police, Suresh, who is a software engineer in a Bangalore-based IT company, was returning home with his wife, Chaitra, and son, Mayank, on the motorcycle when the incident occurred.

The family had gone to their native village, Nittur, near Nelamangala, for the weekend and were returning home on Monday, the police said. The incident occurred when Suresh was trying to get onto the highway from a service road, when the lorry hit the motorcycle. While Suresh lost control and fell on the side of the road, Chaitra, who was holding Mayank, fell on the other side and came under the wheels of the lorry.

The police arrested the lorry driver and seized the vehicle.
