Woman held for fatally stabbing alcoholic son

A woman stabbed her 22-year-old son to death at her house in J.J. Nagar on Saturday after he picked a fight with her demanding money for liquor.

The deceased has been identified as Ramesh. The police have arrested Nallamma, 40, and her elder son Nagaraj, both of whom are construction labourers.

Investigations revealed that Ramesh too was a construction labourer and was chronic alcoholic who used to harass his mother for money to buy drinks. He had stopped going to work in the past few months and would demand money every day.

On Saturday, Ramesh assaulted Nallamma when she refused to give him money. He is said to taken threatened to stab her with a kitchen knife. But Nallamma, with Nagaraj’s help, overpowered Ramesh, snatched the knife and stabbed him instead.

Neighbours, hearing the screams, rushed to the spot and alerted the police.
