Depressed due to her marriage being called off, a 31-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging herself in her house in Rajarajeshwarinagar on Tuesday.

The deceased, Nagalakshmi, was a MBA graduate and working as team leader in a private company.

According to the police, she was engaged to Karthik, a city-based software engineer, and their marriage was scheduled to be held in May this year.

Inquiries revealed that Karthik had postponed the marriage after the death of his father and Nagalakshmi’s parents had agreed to it. Meanwhile, Karthik’s family started demanding more dowry. On Tuesday, Karthik wrote to Nagalakshmi stating that he was not interested in the marriage.

Depressed, the woman asked her father to consult an advocate and even told her mother to prepare snacks for her before taking the extreme step. But, when her mother returned to her room she found Nagalakshmi hanging.

The Rajarajeshwarinagar police rushed to the spot and investigation is on. A four-page suicide note has been recovered by the police.
