The Ramamurthynagar police have arrested three persons, including a 27-year-old woman, who allegedly planned the murder of her husband, with the help of her 64-year-old lover.

Arunavalli, wife of the deceased Karthikeyan (34), a security guard with a private firm residing in K.R. Puram, has been arrested along with Gajendra Rao, her alleged paramour and landlord, and N. Swamy (25), who assisted in disposing of the body.

While Karthikeyan was killed on February 6, the police recovered the decomposed body in a water tank of a farm house in Horamavu only on February 10.

Upon interrogation of the suspects, the police said Arunavalli confessed that she had a relationship with Rao and Karthikeyan came to know about it. Enraged and dejected, he used to come home drunk and had frequent fights over the issue. Fearing that Karthikeyan would create more trouble for them, the lovers decided to eliminate him.

According to the plan, Arunavalli was sent to her parent’s house in Tamil Nadu along with her two daughters aged six and three. When Karthikeyan returned home drunk after his duty on February 6, Rao, who was hiding in the house, clubbed him with an iron rod, killing him instantly.

He wrapped the body in a bed sheet and with Swamy’s help took it in a car towards Kalkere where he set it on fire. He dumped the partially burnt body in a water tank of a farm house belonging to Revanna, Ramamurthynagar Police Inspector T. Mutturaj said. After the police recovered the body, they stumbled upon the information that a security guard had gone missing from home under mysterious circumstances. The police tracked the mother of the deceased, who identified the body.

The police later summoned Arunavalli to the station to ask her why she had not filed a missing complaint. She feigned ignorance, but later confessed to the crime. The trio have been remanded in judicial custody, Mr. Mutturaj said.
