‘Withhold grant of wakf land’

May 15, 2014 11:21 pm | Updated 11:21 pm IST - Bangalore:

Minister for Minority Welfare, Haj and Wakf Qamarul Islam has urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to withhold the order on allotment of land at Bellahalli in Bangalore North to Vidhana Soudha Group D Employees Union as a Special Leave Petition (SLP) pertaining to the ownership of the land was pending before the Supreme Court.

In a letter to Mr. Siddaramaiah, Mr. Islam said the Wakf Board had claimed ownership of the 15 acres of land in Survey No. 55 of Bellahalli in Bangalore North and an SLP regarding the same was pending before the Supreme Court.

Contending that allocation of the piece of land when the SLP was pending before the court amounted to contempt of court, Mr. Islam has requested Mr. Siddaramaiah to direct the Principal Secretary of the Revenue Department to withhold government allotment of land on December 17, 2013.
