A motorist smashed the wind screen of another car following a heated argument when they were caught in a protest against Kabali .

A group led by Vatal Nagaraj of Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha staged a protest against the release of the Tamil film in 300 theatres across the State.

The protest was scheduled at Mysore Bank Circle. However, around 11.45 a.m., the group walked towards Sheshadripuram Junction near Nataraj theatre and burnt an effigy representing other language films. Mr. Nagaraj claimed that giving permission to release the movie on such a large scale would affect Kannada movies.

Rajinikanth fans began to walk towards the protest venue and also raised slogans.

Sensing trouble, police dispersed the crowds by resorting to a mild lathi charge. People fleeing the scene knocked down several bikers. In the melee, two passing motorists got into a heated argument; one of them smashed the wind screen of the other car.

The police detained Mr. Nagaraj and his supporters. The situation was brought under control after additional forces were deployed, a senior police officer said.
