Mayor B.S. Sathyanarayana announced that work on widening of Bannerghatta Road will be taken up in another two months after he inspected the road on Saturday.
In order to ensure that the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) does not face any hurdles in acquiring land and widening the road, a meeting will be held on October 19 at 10 a.m. at Meenakshi Sundaram Marriage Hall on Bannerghatta Road. Local MLA, councillor and BBMP officials will participate in the meeting. Transport Minister and Bangalore city in-charge Minister Ramalinga Reddy would also be invited to attend the meeting.
“The BBMP officials will seek a consent letter from the property owners. The BBMP will also take possession of such properties, issue TDR (Transferrable Development Rights) and take up road widening soon,” Mr. Sathyanarayana said.
Bannerghatta Road is one of the roads notified for widening in the Revised Master Plan 2015 (RMP 2015). The 7.5-km stretch will be widened to 150 ft from the existing 90 ft. Already, 405 properties have been identified for acquisition. The detailed project report is ready and funds have been allocated for the widening in the budget.
Some of the properties that will be acquired for road widening include Indian Institute of Management – Bangalore, Jayadeva Institute of Cardio Vascular Sciences and Research, Sagar Hospital, Fortis Hospital and Appollo Hospital.
Mr. Sathyanarayana and the BBMP team instructed officials concerned to ensure that there are no encroachments on the main road. The Mayor instructed an official to stop the construction of an apartment complex comprising 3,000 flats in 13 blocks as it would affect the connectivity between Begur Road and Hosur Road.
To provide direct connectivity to Bannerghatta Road from Kodichikkanahalli, a service road would be constructed next to the ‘Raja Kaluve’. Similarly, the BBMP will also construct a road to provide connectivity between 6th Main Road, Bommanahalli, and Hosur Road. The work would begin on Monday, he added. The Mayor directed the engineers concerned to take up repairs and asphalt roads in Krishnappa Garden, Tavarekere, Gurrappanapalya immediately. He also directed officials to bring down the unauthorised hoarding along the stretch.
