Worried that the ongoing metro work would create a situation of chaos, residents of Whitefield along with industry establishments of the area are seeking the appointment of a high-level nodal officer to coordinate with various civic agencies to ensure work goes smoothly.
Anjali Saini, a member of Whitefield Rising, said that traffic has already become a major problem with commute time increasing by 30 to 40 minutes for many residents. “There are many problems arising due to metro work... some high tension wires have to be moved and there are issues with drainage. Having a nodal officer to work between differenct civic agencies would streamline work,” she maintained.
The Whitefield Area Commerce and Industries Association will make a representation to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) managing director Pradeep Singh Kharola on this.
They are also seeking that alternative commute options, such as suburban trains, are put in place before the metro gets completed.
The second phase of Namma Metro will connect Whitefield to Baiyappanahalli. The 15.5 km line is expected to be completed by 2020.
