The BMRCL on Tuesday night carried out a safety drill focusing on emergency evacuation procedure in an underground stretch. It began around 11.15 p.m. at Dr. Ambedkar Station. A train left for Visvesvaraya Station, but was stopped mid-way.
The emergency protocol was announced. Doors were opened on one side and passengers were told to step on the walkway on the side.
As passengers departed the distressed train, two officials made a headcount. At the same time, additional air was pumped into the tunnel for the benefit of the ‘stranded’ passengers.
They were told to proceed in the direction of a cross-tunnel connecting to the parallel tunnel where a ‘rescue train’ was waiting. Once all the passengers had entered the rescue train, it headed towards Dr. Ambedkar Station.
The process took around 15 minutes.
Participants included Minister for Bengaluru Development K.J. George and BMRCL Managing Director Pradeep Singh Kharola.
