The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is duty bound to dispose of garbage, which is piling up across the city. Also, there is a fear of an epidemic spreading due to the piling up of garbage.
Have the city administrators lost their eyesight? I have spoken to the Chief Minister and palike Commissioner about the disposal of garbage and directed them to take immediate steps. Beyond this, I cannot do anything. The Bangalore in-charge Minister should take more interest in the matter.
Governor H.R. Bhardwaj
As the BBMP has failed to discharge one of its basic responsibilities of clearing garbage, the government should immediately supersede it and appoint an administrator.
People of the city should not be exposed to the health hazards due to piling up of garbage.
KPCC president G. Parameshwara
At a time when U.S. President Barack Obama speaks of Bangalore for its IT strength, the city should not have garbage problems. I only hope that the politicians and bureaucrats collectively take action to address the issue.
Chairman Emeritus of Infosys N.R. Narayana Murthy
The appalling condition of Bangalore is [discouraging] investors and industrialists from Karnataka. The BBMP lacks the foresight to evolve a scientific system for disposal of the 5,000 tonnes of garbage per day. It should initiate immediate steps to identify a proper landfill and clear the garbage accumulated. Long-term measures are needed for scientific disposal of garbage to create a favourable atmosphere for the industrial development of Karnataka.
