Governor Vajubhai R. Vala has again sought clarifications from the State government besides legal opinion from the Advocate-General on some of the issues related to the Karnataka Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2015 that seeks to make voting mandatory in gram panchayat elections.
It is the second time within a week that the Governor has sought clarification on this Bill which was adopted by both the Houses of the State legislature during the recent budget session and sent to him for his assent.
Earlier, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister H.K. Patil had met the Governor and replied to the clarifications. According to a communication from the Minister’s office, the Governor has now sought legal opinion from the Advocate-General in addition to clarifications. “The clarifications, along with the Advocate-General’s legal opinion, will be submitted to the Governor at the earliest,” the communication said.
This is the second Bill on which the Governor is seeking clarification in the last 10 days. He recently sought clarification on the ordinance seeking trifurcation of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike.
