After people from Karnataka whose journeys in Uttarakhand were cut short by nature’s fury, the Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi is set to host a batch of 130 pilgrims. Meanwhile, 52 pilgrims from the State, who had to be rescued a few kilometres before Badrinath last , have left the bhavan.
T.M. Rangaswamy, Joint Resident Commissioner, Karnataka Bhavan, said on Monday evening that they were expecting a batch of 130 pilgrims by train from the flood-hit Uttarakhand. “These people had made it to Badrinath and completed darshan , but were stuck on the way back as the roads were jammed. They did not have to be rescued,” he said.
Meanwhile, some of those who left the bhavan arrived in Bengaluru on Monday, while some were still on their way home.
Recalling their journey, Revanasiddaiah, a businessman from Sira in Tumakuru district, who was travelling by bus with 53 others, said they had to stop 6 km before Badrinath following a landslip. “As vehicles had piled up, no one could go either forward or backward. For one-and-a-half days, we just sat in the bus. Thankfully, we had a cook along with us, so we managed to have food. The government too supplied food to us. An Army camp close-by had set up bathrooms. We were finally air-lifted on Friday,” he said.
