Enthused by the results of the recently held elections to the urban local bodies (ULB) across the State, the Bangalore Mahanagara District Congress Committee has been chalking out plans to get more people to join the party.
Speaking to reporters here on Friday, committee president and Gandhinagar MLA Dinesh Gundu Rao said the Congress was holding conventions across the State to strengthen the party and induct new members. “Following the convention we held in Jayanagar, we have organised a convention to be held in the Cantonment area of the city. The convention will be held on Monday at RBANMS Grounds, St. John’s Road, Ulsoor,” he said, adding that senior party leaders, including Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G. Parameshwara, Leaders of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly and Council Siddaramaiah and S.R. Patil, would participate.
The convention was being held to strengthen the party and instil confidence in the party workers from Shivajinagar, Sarvajna Nagar, Pulikeshinagar, Shantinagar and C.V. Raman Nagar constituencies.
Stating confidently that the Congress would get the people’s mandate in the coming elections, Mr. Rao said that the recent urban local body elections had revealed that citizens were fed up with the Bharatiya Janata Party’s false assurances.
Asked about the dismal voter turnout in the city, he said that the Congress had earlier corresponded with the Election Commission urging the agency to take steps to make the voters’ list error-free. He also urged the educated people to come out to vote.
