Two labourers were killed and seven injured when a four-storey building under construction collapsed on Jail Road at Kasavanahalli in Bengaluru on Thursday afternoon.
Eight fire tenders reached the spot and rescue personnel and local residents managed to rescue as many as seven labourers trapped under the debris. The injured were taken to hospitals nearby.
City Police Commissioner T. Suneel Kumar said the labourers were from Jharkhand, Kalaburagi and Raichur.
A search was on as some more labourers were suspected to be trapped under the debris. The rescue operation has been taken up by personnel of the National Disaster Response Force, Fire and Emergency Services, Civil Defence and police.
Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George, who visited the spot, announced ₹5 lakh compensation to the families of the deceased. He also said that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) would bear the cost of treatment of those injured in the incident. Stating that the focus was now on rescue of those trapped, he said that an inquiry will be conducted into the incident.
