A day after four youths drowned in the Manchanabele dam in Ramanagaram, two men drowned in the Chellakere lake in Rajanakunte police station limits on Wednesday.

The two persons, identified as Nagesh (20) and Thyagaraj (20), had gone swimming in the lake on Wednesday evening when they drowned.

Police officers along with fire and emergency services started search operations and were able to recover Nagesh’s body from the lake and shifted it to the Yelahanka goverenment hospital for autopsy.

Officials said that mud had been dug out recently near the area where the two went swimming. It was much deeper and therefore the duo could not stay afloat, an officer said.

The rescue team abandoned search operations late evening and will resume on Thursday morning to recover Thyagaraj’s body.

While Nagesh was a security guard, Thyagaraj was an ITI student.

Both of them are from the same village near Chellakere, police said.
