Two security guards held for robbing tech firms

The J.P. Nagar police have arrested a two security guards, who used to rob tech firms within days of joining duty. The accused would secure the job by providing just their mobile number and escape after looting the firms.

The two security guards have been identified as Paresh Kumar Sinha (38) from Tripura and Bijoy Das (34) from Orissa.

Inquiries revealed that Paresh’s parents were suffering from cancer and he had come to the city to make money for their treatment.

The police said all the robberies were pre-planned. Paresh would not submit identity proof with the security firms that employed him. They said that he had robbed three tech firms in Koramangala, Adugodi and J.P. Nagar police station limits and made away with electronic goods worth ₹25 lakh.

S.D. Sharanappa, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), said that on July 15, Paresh joined a tech firm in J.P. Nagar 3rd Phase and did a recce along with his associate Bijoy. The duo made away with 21 laptops, 15 tabs, two mobile phones and other electronic accessories.

Based on a complaint, the police took up investigations and analysed the CCTV footage, where they identified Paresh. They tracked him down based on the call detail records and arrested him along with Bijoy. The accused confessed to all the three robberies and told the police that they were arranging the money for the treatment of Paresh’s parents.

The police have advised the security agencies to conduct mandatory background checks before hiring any person. The police have also advised the tech firms to install CCTV cameras compulsorily, which will act as a deterrent to such incidents.
