The Ramamurthynagar police on Friday night arrested two men on the charge of cheating the owners of a furniture showroom and a tiles showroom by issuing cheques that bounced subsequently.

Police sources named the arrested as Aaron (32), a resident of Sanjayanagar, and Usman (30), a resident of K.G. Halli. “The duo approached a furniture showroom and purchased plywood worth Rs. 7.7 lakh in January and issued a cheque, which subsequently bounced,” a source said, and added that the cheque had been issued even before the account was activated.

The two told the owner of the furniture showroom the wood was meant for Suvidha Orphanage Trust in Kalkere and got the consignment delivered there, after which they carted away the wood and sold it elsewhere.

Similarly, they allegedly cheated businessmen dealing in iron and tiles worth Rs. 4.5 lakh last month. Police sources said the duo was suspected to be involved in other cheating cases too.

Aaron, the police sources said, is the brother of Farooq, who helped the Lokayukta police nab Kolar Gold Fields MLA Y. Sampangi in a bribery case.

Both the accused have been remanded in police custody.
