After hoodwinking the city police for two days, the former Bommanahalli City Municipal Council chairman Krishnappa surrendered before the a local court on Wednesday and was subsequently remanded in judicial custody.

A speeding Land Rover driven by ‘Bar’ Krishnappa, allegedly in an inebriated condition, ran over people on the footpath near Parappana Agrahara junction on Monday night, killing four persons, including two women, and injuring six others. Krishnappa escaped under the cover of darkness.

After going underground for two days, he appeared before the First Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court with his advocate on Wednesday and surrendered.

While the police tried to get his custody, the court remanded him in judicial custody till July 27 citing jurisdictional problem.

The police said that they could not get Krishnappa's custody as the Magistrate told them that the crime did not fall under the court’s jurisdiction, hence he cannot allow police custody.

However, the police would approach the court again on Thursday with a fresh application seeking his custody.

While in the court , Krishnappa did not speak a single word, he even did not ask for the bail.
