The Karnataka Railway Police have arrested two women, resident of a suburb in Chennai, who were allegedly involved in stealing in trains.
The duo, along with three others, were allegedly stealing money and other valuables from passengers alighting trains. They operated between Whitefield and Cantonment railway stations, according to Superintendent of Police D.C. Rajappa.
Mr. Rajappa gave the names of the two accused as Bharati and Bhuvana.
He said the members of the gang would stand at the platform just as the train approached the railway station. While one wearing a burkha would block the way of passengers getting down from the train, others would join along with other passengers getting into the train. In this melee the accused would steal cash and other valuables, he said.
Difficult
The Railway police had difficulty in tracing the accused. Each time the accused were caught, they were getting a bail within three days from the jurisdictional court by giving fake addresses, said Mr. Rajappa. He said that a separate case is being taken up for furnishing false address.
