Two arrested for chain-snatching

Two persons have been arrested in connection with chain-snatching and theft cases reported in Subramanyanagar and Rajagopalanagar police station limits.

The police have seized gold chains and three motorcycles together worth Rs. 15 lakh from them.

The police said B.P. Girish (26) from Tumkur and Umesh (26) from Mandya would go around on motorcycle and target unaccompanied women. They would also snatch chains from women who would come to temples on festival days and special occasions. They had also stolen valuables from a few houses and parked cars, the police said.

The police said the duo was wanted in 10 cases.

Electrocution

A 23-year-old cable operator was electrocuted in Sriranganagar in Girinagar police station limits on Friday night. Raghavendra was electrocuted when the cable he was drawing accidentally came in contact with a high-tension line nearby. He died on the spot.

Praveen (22), who was assisting Raghavendra, sustained severe injuries and has been admitted to Victoria Hospital.

Killed on the spot

A 30-year-old woman was killed on the spot after the two-wheeler she was riding rammed a stationary lorry on K.R. Puram bridge on Saturday. The police said Subbalakshmi, a resident of Pai Layout, was returning home from a bank when the accident occurred.

The police said the lorry had broken down and the driver was trying to repair it when the accident occurred. The driver, Suresh Kumar, has been arrested.

Nine arrested

The North Division police have arrested nine persons in connection with a robbery case reported in J.C. Nagar police station limits.

The nine suspects had followed S.S. Shekhar, who was riding a two-wheeler near Jayamahal on December 5 after withdrawing cash from a private bank nearby, on motorcycles and snatched away his bag which had Rs. 80,000.

The police named the arrested as Ajay Ashok Tamanche (31), Sushanth Kumar (27), Rajesh Devji (30), Vikas Urape Thakur Bogekar (35), Vishal Kantibai Tamanche (30), Sanjay Baiji Gagadekar (23), Jitendar Lalabai Rathod (45), Akash Prakash Indrekar (23) and Sunny Surendra Tamanche (23), all natives of Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The police have seized items worth Rs. 13 lakh, including a pistol, three motorcycles, a car and Rs. 50,000 in cash, from them.
