A 48-year old woman was allegedly taken hostage in her own car by three unidentified men at Kengeri on June 9. They allegedly forced her to drive to the outskirts of the city where they stole her valuables, tied her and locked her inside the car before abandoning her.

She was rescued the next morning by a passer-by, on Hosur Road near the Tamil Nadu border, after being stuck in her car for 12 hours.

She later told the police that the men had robbed her of ₹1 lakh in cash and jewellery worth ₹3 lakh.

The woman, Pramila, runs the Pramila Gowda Educational Trust.

In her complaint to the police, Pramila said that on Saturday around 5 p.m., she was leaving for her home in Nagarbhavi from the office of the Trust at Dayananda Layout when three men approached her and forced her to sit inside her car in the driver’s seat.

“She told us that she was too scared to raise an alarm and obeyed them for fear of her life,” said the police.

One of the men sat next to her in the passenger seat and the other two occupied the rear seat. The complainant stated that the trio made her drive from Hoysala Circle to Dubasipalya railway cross. Then, they asked her to drive towards Uttarahalli road from where they told her to drive to J.P. Nagar, and later towards Hosur Road in the direction of Tamil Nadu.

They told her to stop the car at Sulikere and pushed her into the rear seat. They tied her hands, and took her valuables and the cash she had on her. They abandoned her in the car.

A passer-by noticed her the next morning and informed the Tamil Nadu police.

Pramila approached the Kengeri police who have registered a case of kidnap and robbery under Sections 34, 392 and 363 of the Indian Penal Code.
