Hundreds of irate passengers blocked the tracks at the Bangalore City Railway station after they found that the Bangalore City–Chennai Mail was rescheduled.
Claiming that they were not informed about the “sudden rescheduling” of the train, they blocked the tracks. One of the passengers told The Hindu that several women, children and elderly were left stranded at the railway station.
“We have been told that we can take the 7 a.m. (Saturday) train to Chennai. We are not willing to wait in the station for that train. The South Western Railway cannot reschedule trains at its own whims,” the passenger said.
According to a press release from the SWR, the train was scheduled to leave Bangalore City station at 10.40 p.m. However, with its pairing train running late, the train was rescheduled to leave at 5.30 a.m. on Saturday.
Anil Kumar Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, Bangalore, said that SWR had announced the rescheduling of the Chennai Mail on Friday morning itself through various media.
“We had to reschedule as the Karnataka Express from New Delhi to Bangalore came late. It is the same rake that goes to Chennai after maintenance. We will consider the requests for ticket refund from the passengers who have been inconvenienced,” he said.
