Fifty-three students from government schools, who have an inclination towards medicine, were selected for being mentored by top doctors of the city to gain insights in the field of medicine, as part of Project Udaan.

On Thursday, they were given scholarships by Devi Shetty, Managing Trustee, Narayana Hrudayalaya Charitable Trust.

Students also underwent health check-ups and their parents underwent counselling to understand the needs of the child. Project Udaan, launched in December 2014, aims to ensure that class nine students are given guidance for nine years and can pursue a career in medicine.

Talking about the young aspirants, Dr. Devi Shetty aid, “Their enthusiasm is encouraging. There is a dearth of specialists in our country, especially in rural and semi-urban districts. The aim of initiating this project was to reach out to bright students from underprivileged sections of society and provide them a platform to fulfil their dreams.”

The members of the project are from Mindtree, Shikshana and Narayana Hrudayalaya Charitable Trust.
