The Jayanagar police have detained three people, including a relative of a former BBMP councillor, in connection with the murder of Suresh Pujari, 41-year-old financier, in an apartment near J.S.S. Circle in Jayanagar on May 9.
Two of the men — Rakesh (35) and Suresh Gowda, (32) from Bilekahalli — claimed that Pujari had borrowed ₹2 crore promising to return double the amount in a year. They told the police that they had taken loans from friends and relatives to raise the money, but Pujari later refused to repay the amount.
According to the police, Rakesh and Suresh convinced Pujari to host a party in his house in Jayanagar where they plied him with alcohol. When he fell unconscious, they allegedly tied him up, slit his throat and hid the body in a gunny sack before leaving the house.
Sources in the police claim that Pujari is named in several criminal cases in Kundapura. He had shifted base to Bengaluru recently. But his wife and two children had stayed back in Kundapura.
The third person who has been detained, Narayana, is a relative of a former councillor.
A police officer said, “There are more suspects and we are probing their role in the murder.”
No arrests have been made yet.
