Three arrested in Ahmedabad on charge of jeweller’s murder

April 24, 2014 12:06 am | Updated May 21, 2016 01:10 pm IST - Bangalore:

The police have said that the murder of Shravan Kumar Pokarna (46), a jeweller and relative of MLC Lehar Singh, has been solved following the arrest of three persons in Ahmedabad by the Ahmedabad police on Monday. Pokarna was hacked to death in March last year.

According to the police here on Wednesday, the three persons arrested for their alleged involvement in a series of murder cases have reportedly confessed to killing the jeweller at his shop in Rajajinagar. The accused have been identified as Manish Goswami, Gaurav Tomar and Vinay Parmar. The police said that the gang was led by Vishal Goswami, who is still at large.

A senior police official said that a team has been sent to Ahmedabad to get custody of the arrested persons.

The accused, from Chambal in Madhya Pradesh, were arrested while they were making an extortion call to a jeweller, the police official said.

The police suspected that the arrested persons could be involved in robberies at two Chemmanur Jewellers outlets here.

While the Jalahalli outlet was looted in December 2011, the other store in Rajajinagar was targeted in September 2012.

A senior police official said that the modus operandi in the murder and robbery cases in Ahmedabad matched that of the two cases here.
