Walking through Lalbagh is like going through a museum of global flora. Tipu Sultanwas keen on the garden representing the best of the world, and today Lalbagh plays hosts to plants from Madagascar, Mauritius, South Africa, Australia, and the West Indies; as well as parts of Europe, China and South America. Some of these include: Gulmohar and Colville’s Glory from Madagascar, Plumeria (popular with sparrows) from West Indies and Mexico, Sausage Tree from Mozambique , Octopus Tree from Australia, Jacaranda from South America, and the Raintree from Central America.
