Monday marks a decade since the terror attack at the Indian Institute of Science in which a professor died and four others were injured.
The attack took place on December 28, 2005, around 7 p.m. Two men in army fatigues opened fire at random, which resulted in the murder of IIT-Delhi professor Munish Chandra Puri. The incident was the State’s first brush with terrorism.
Six men, allegedly linked to Lashkar-e-Toiba, were convicted in December 2011 for their involvement in the conspiracy. The men who actually opened fire continue to elude security agencies.
Indian agencies suspect that the shooter was Abu Hamza. In 2010, Abu Jundal, a handler of the 26/11 Mumbai attack who was extradited to India in 2012, claimed to have attended the funeral of Abu Hamza in 2009 after his death due to a mysterious illness.
