Tension prevailed outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here for some time on Saturday when cricket fans who had queued up outside the counters to buy tickets for Sunday’s IPL match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rising Pune Supergiant saw that the counters got closed and ‘sold out’ boards were put up. They alleged that tickets were being sold on the black.
Tickets prized ₹500 were being sold for ₹2,000, they claimed.
A few enraged people caught three men allegedly selling tickets on the black, thrashed them and handed them over to the police.
“We have come all the way from Hubballi and have been standing outside the counter since morning. We were told that the tickets have been sold out, but some people are trying to sell them for ₹2,000,” said Abhishekh, a student.
“Its a racket involving the stadium staff who sell the tickets to touts to make more money,” he alleged.
People started shouting slogans against the stadium management for not issuing tickets.
The Cubbon Park police have taken the three persons into custody for questioning. “We are trying to ascertain from where they got the tickets and also if they have any links with the stadium staff,” a police officer said.
After waiting for hours, hundreds of people returned disappointed.
