Telemedicine in ambulances?

April 30, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - Bengaluru:

With the ever-increasing traffic in the city often preventing ambulances carrying critical patients reach hospitals on time, doctors and telemedicine experts have suggested that ambulances should be fitted with internet-driven telemedicine facility.

Making the suggestion at a workshop on telemedicine held in the city on Friday, C.N. Manjunath, Director of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, said if an ambulance has such a facility, treatment can start onboard. “It will not only help avoid delay in treatment, but also keep the doctor in the nearest hospital (where the patient is being taken to) informed about the patient’s condition so that further treatment can begin as soon as the patient is wheeled in,” the doctor said.
