A police head constable was injured when a 28-year-old software engineer knocked him down while trying to escape during a routine drive against drunken driving in Kamakshipalya here on Saturday.

In the process, the accused, identified as Ramesh, also fell off the bike and was injured. The constable and the software engineer were rushed to a private hospital, where Thammaiah, who has fractured his leg, and Ramesh, who has sustained multiple injuries, are undergoing medical treatment.

According to the police, Ramesh was returning home from his Nagarbhavi office when he noticed a check-point put up by Kamakshipalya traffic police.

Thammiah, who noticed Ramesh at a distance, tried to stop him. However, Ramesh tried to escape, knocked down Thammaiah, lost control of the motorcycle and crashed on the road.

Inspector Niranjan Kumar rushed to their help and noticed that Ramesh was drunk. “We have booked a case against Ramesh. We are waiting for his recovery to arrest him,” Mr. Kumar said.
