February 14, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 09:00 am IST - Bengaluru:

A software engineer was conned into parting with Rs. 60,000 to two men, under the assumption that they were selling him an iPhone and a laptop.

Venkat Narayana, a resident of H.S.R. Layout II stage, while on way home from work was confronted by the two men on Venkatapura Road. They told him they were in dire need of money and offered to sell him their iPhone and laptop for a song.

Mr. Narayana, after examining the devices, went to a nearby ATM. When he was back with the money, the two men handed him a package wrapped in a cover. The duo soon sped away telling him that they were in a hurry.

When Mr. Narayana unwrapped the cover after reaching home, he discovered a piece of brick instead of an iPhone and a laptop.

Not the first incident

This is not the first time people have been conned this way. A gang operating in the city had duped many gullible people in H.S.R. Layout, Madiwala, Whitefield and Electronics City. Three people from Uttar Pradesh had been arrested last year. A police officer said the gang must have returned and resumed their operation.
