Residents of Indiranagar, who have been protesting on Saturdays for the last one month seeking action against restaurants “flouting” norms, approached the Halasuru police on Saturday demanding action against two such restaurants.
The memorandum, submitted to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Halasuru, alleged that the restaurants — with rooftop bars — were playing loud music beyond permitted hours.
Residents of 100-feet Road, who approached the police on Saturday with recorded decibel levels taken over the past month post 11 p.m., said that the levels frequently touched numbers close to 75 decibels (dB) on weekends while the permissible level in a mixed area is 55 dB.
“We will continue with our protest until we find a solution,” Vinoo Thimmaya, a resident, said.
“Rooftop bars are operating illegally and some of them have live DJs who blast music or screen sporting events on giant screens throughout the night. There is constant honking, screaming, and shouting along with drunken brawls which go on past 2 a.m.,” said another resident. ACP of Halasur Mohammed Sajjad Khan confirmed to The Hindu that he has received the complaint from the residents.
“We have taken action against earlier complaints. We will check the restaurants that the residents have complained against and if they are playing loud music, we will get it stopped,” he said.
