A 42-year-old Kannada film stunt director has been arrested on the charge of sexually exploiting a 29-year-old junior artiste by promising to marry her.

The Nandini Layout police arrested the stunt director, ‘Kaurava’ Venkatesh, on Friday when he came to the police station to convince the woman not to file a complaint.

According to the police, Venkatesh got acquainted with the woman two years ago during a film shoot. Ventakesh used his contacts to get her roles in films and sought sexual favours in return.

When the junior artiste objected to this stating that he was married, Venkatesh reportedly promised that he would marry her by convincing his wife.

The woman’s parents, who came to know about their relationship, met Venkatesh several times and tried to convince him to marry their daughter, the police said.

However, when Venkatesh did not agree, she decided to file a complaint, the police said.

The police said that the woman came to station on Friday morning to file a complaint. Venkatesh, who came to know about this, rushed to the station and tried to convince her. However, the woman did not relent.

Soon after registering the complaint, the police arrested Ventakesh.

He has been booked under the provisions of sections 376 (rape) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code. Ventakesh has been remanded in police custody.
