Members of the All-India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) protested here on Monday against the State government’s move to implement the Karnataka Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Determination of Fee) Act, 2006.
‘Expensive’ State president of AIDSO V.N. Rajashekhar, said if the Act is implemented, it would ‘abolish’ merit quota for students in private professional colleges. “Contrary to the government’s claim of putting an end to ‘seat blocking’, seat auctioning would become the order of the day. If the poor fail to admit their wards in government and aided engineering institutions, they will be forced to shell out lakhs of rupees,” he said.
Mr. Rajashekhar said writing the exam of the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) will now become inevitable
Fee hike The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) too has called for an ‘agitation’ against the hike in fee which will result from the implementation of the Act.
