Sorry state of affairs at maternity hospital

December 21, 2010 03:20 pm | Updated October 17, 2016 09:32 pm IST - Bangalore:

The surprise inspection of the maternity hospital and community health centre at the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike's (BBMP) Dasappa Hospital by the Standing Committee for Establishment and Administrative Reforms revealed the sorry state of affairs there.

The committee members found that both the maternity hospital and centre had only one physician. The toilets were unclean and the staff did not have any identity cards. The beds at the hospital were also in a deplorable condition. The officials concerned have been directed to replace them immediately. At the centre, the members found that there was no information about the programmes taken up by the community health workers.

The committee later visited the Mosquito Control Cell and found that only two Group D employees had reported for work. No official was present. The members directed officials from the commissioner's office to seal the cupboards at the cell.

During their inspection of the doctors' quarters, they found that they (quarters) were occupied by drivers of other offices, while at the drug store room, the stock book was not updated.
