Sorry girls, you need better marks to make the cut

June 02, 2016 08:02 am | Updated September 16, 2016 10:00 am IST - BENGALURU:

Girls performing better than boys in exams is now almost a norm.

But this very fact works to their disadvantage when it comes to getting admission in co-education colleges, which have separate cut-offs for girls and boys.

With overall results being better for girls, the cut-off margins too are higher for girls when compared to boys in a majority of the combinations across different colleges.

Higher cut-off

This year, the cut-off percentages in Pre-University Colleges are soaring by nearly 5 per cent in some top colleges.

An analysis of individual combinations reveal that the difference in cut-offs is about 5 per cent.

For instance, at Seshadripuram PU College, the cut-off for the MEBA combination in the commerce stream is 80 per cent for boys but 85.6 per cent for girls.

While some colleges publish separate lists for boys and girls, other colleges publish a common list but with different cut-offs.
