The cyber crime police have arrested 31-year-old software engineer working for Ola, a taxi aggregator, on charges of unauthorised use of Aadhaar data for developing a mobile application.

The accused, who has been identified as Abhinava Srivastav, is a graduate of IIT-Kharagpur. He had allegedly illegally accessed data from a e-hospital server to develop the app in January, which has been downloaded by 50,000 people so far. After a complaint was filed, the accused went underground, but was finally nabbed.

According to the police, the accused had developed five apps. The cyber crime unit is verifying to ascertain whether he was involved in similar crime earlier.

In its response, Ola said, “The company has nothing to do with the arrest nor did it authorise the person to develop the app.”
