A 30-year-old employee of an IT firm has lodged a complaint with the cyber crime police accusing a former colleague of creating a fake profile on a social networking site in her name, and uploading personal video clips and photos. When she confronted him, he allegedly tried to blackmail her.
In her complaint, filed on Tuesday, the woman said that she and the colleague, Shiv Lalwani, worked together at an IT firm in Bengaluru in 2012. According to the police, the two were in a relationship. The next year, Lalwani quit and joined a firm in another city. “They kept in touch and video-chatted with each other till 2015,” said the police.
However, the victim alleged, Lalwani started blackmailing her emotionally and extorted ₹1 lakh from her. Sensing trouble, she stopped communicating with him and blocked him from all her social media accounts. Then, the accused created a fake account in her name and uploaded videos and photographs of her, she alleged in the complaint.
The police have registered a case against Lalwani for sexual harassment, extortion and other sections of the IT Act.
