Sheshadri, Kasaravalli shine at national awards

Noted filmmaker P. Sheshadri, who has created record by bagging national awards for every film made by him, continued the trend by bagging the Best Regional Film award for the eighth time for his December 1 , at the 61st National Film Awards announced in New Delhi on Wednesday. He was also deemed Best Screenplay Writer for his work on the film.

Distinguished director Girish Kasaravalli was awarded the Special Jury prize for Ananthamurthy - Not a Biography, but a Hypotheses , which he shared with Tamaash , a Kashmiri documentary. Director Panchakshari won the Best Adapted Screenplay award for the Kannada film Prakruthi .

Mr. Sheshadri will get the Rajat Kamal medal and Rs.1 lakh in cash. The jury described December 1 as “a hard-hitting tale of a poor rural family that gets enmeshed with the crooked ways of politicians.”
