The safety assessment of Namma Metro’s Reach 4 and 4A, connecting Sampige Road to Yelachanahalli, began on Wednesday. The inspection will be carried out by the Commissioner of Railway Safety and will be the final step before the long delayed line can be thrown open to the public.
The line, which will connect Malleswaram, Yeshwantpur and other northern localities with the south, was supposed to be operational almost two years ago. However, delays related to tunnelling led to the deadline being pushed forward several times. Even after tunnelling was completed in September last year, the deadline has been changed at least twice.
The commissioning of these two reaches will complete Phase I of the Namma Metro project.
