The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike will soon build 10 towers on the outskirts of the city. The design of the towers is ready and is based on the replica of the Kempe Gowda tower installed by the BBMP near Hudson Circle opposite the civic body’s head office.
Sponsors to fund itMayor B.S. Sathynarayana said that the replica of Kempe Gowda towers would be built by the BBMP under the public-private partnership model. “The entire cost of construction of the towers will be borne by sponsors,” he added.
A park will be developed around each of the towers and provision would be made for a shed to house a security guard there. BBMP signage there welcoming visitors to the city will bear the name of the sponsor of the tower concerned.
“The estimated cost of building 10 towers would be around Rs. 80 crore. Several companies have evinced interest to join hands with the BBMP in this venture,” he added.
Spots identifiedAccording to Mr. Sathyanarayana, the towers would be constructed at identified places on Doddaballapur Road, Sarjapur Road, Old Madras Road, Bellary Road, NICE Road, Mysore Road, Magadi Road, Tumkur Road, Bannerghatta Road and K.R. Puram.
BBMP is also exploring the possibility of installing one tower in a lake in K.R. Puram, according to the Mayor. “We have completed inspecting spots identified for the construction of the towers. Another inspection will be carried out to work out the nitty-gritties,” he added.
The Mayor said that under the ‘Namma Bengaluru, Namma Koduge’ initiative, the BBMP is planning to come up with an anthem and a documentary on Bangalore. Music director Hamsalekha has been roped in for the anthem project. The proposed anthem would be used to invite sponsors for maintenance of BBMP parks, schools, hospitals and medians under the ‘Namma Bengaluru, Namma Koduge’ initiative.
Meet at park“We have already received a good response for this initiative. A meeting will be held at Bugle Rock Park in N.R. Colony on Tuesday at 5.30 p.m. where citizens are welcome to provide valuable suggestions with regard to the ‘Namma Bengaluru, Namma Koduge’ initiative,” he added.
