The rejuvenation of Arkavathy and Kumudavathy rivers will commence on Monday, according to Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu.
The Minister told presspersons in Bangalore on Saturday that removing silt and clearing encroachments from the river banks were being taken up at a cost of Rs. 40 to 45 crore, of which the BWSSB will provide Rs. 15 crore.
Work will commence simultaneously in the riparian taluks and will be completed in about one-and-a-half months. The exercise is to protect the source of water that feeds the Thippagondanahalli reservoir which meets the water supply needs of west Bangalore.
The Government plans to fill tanks in and around Bangalore city with treated sewage water, he said. New sewage treatment plants will come up near Bellandur and Yelahanka tanks besides the Vrishabhavathi valley.
