A 52-year-old builder committed suicide by shooting himself with his licensed revolver at his office at Doddabommasandra in Vidyaranyapuram.
Police suspect that huge debts might have led him to take the extreme step.
The deceased has been identified as Suresh Babu, proprietor of Apoorva Developers. He was residing at Apoorva Mansion, an apartment built by his company, with his office located in the same building.
Around 3.30 p.m. on Monday, he reportedly went to the office and shot himself in the head.
The incident came to light when his son, Kuldeep, said to be a pilot, came to the office around an hour later.
“There was no one at his office when he shot himself. His family members are in a state of shock and we are yet to question them. Another of Suresh Babu’s sons, Sagar, was helping his father in the business,” the police added.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sandeep Patil said that preliminary investigations indicated that Babu had huge debts and suffered losses.
However, sources said that Babu had received threats from antisocial elements and that was why he got a licensed revolver. The police are probing whether any threat led him to take the extreme step.
An unnatural death case was registered in the Vidyaranyapuram police station in this connection.
