Alert public helped the police nab an autorickshaw driver, who allegedly tried to rape a minor girl after picking her up from a mall on Tuesday.

The girl, who had been to a mall in Malleswaram, got into the autorickshaw to go home. The driver took a detour and tried to drag her into an isolated park with the alleged intention to rape her. Some passersby, who noticed this, alerted the police.

The Malleswaram police rushed to the spot and rescued the girl, but the driver managed to escape. However, based on the information provided by the girl, the police picked up the accused in a swift action and booked him under the newly enacted law on rape.
