Cakes were cut, notebooks and calendars distributed and even hair cuts for free! This is how fans in the city celebrated superstar Rajinikanth’s birthday, which falls on December 12.

The Karnataka Rajya Kshauraseva Savita Samaja, Basavanagudi, celebrated by offering cakes to around 150 children at Bosco Mane in Chamarajpet and hair cuts.

Freedom fighter H.S. Doreswamy praised the actor and said: “We are proud of him, as he is from Karnataka.”

Earlier in the day, the Karnataka State Rajiniji Seva Samiti distributed notebooks and calendars with Rajinikanth’s pictures. “He was a brilliant student and a born artiste. He was a calm and silent student, who was very talented,” recalled P.S. Chandrashekar, who was Rajinikanth’s Hindi and dance teacher.

While recounting his interactions with the star, he said that though young Rajinikanth did not take part in many competitions, he was “capable of enacting any role.” “In a competition held by the International Drama School, he had enacted the role of the leader of a group of thieves in a play, which was based on Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. The judges, who were very impressed with his acting, rewarded him,” he said.
