Power supply was interrupted, traffic descended into chaos and fallen trees blocked major roads, as torrential rain lashed the city on Friday evening.

Crucially, important junctions remained clogged even close to midnight. Citizens heading to the airport, railway stations and bus stands had a tough time.

Inundation and bumper to bumper traffic was reported from Corporation Circle, Mehkri Circle, M.G. Road, Nrupathunga Road and Basaveshwaranagar among other places.

A tree fell on Double Road in Shantinagar effectively halted vehicular movement while a fallen tree blocked traffic at the Ashoka Pillar in Jayanagar. Motorists on Sankey Road too had a tough time as the roads were flooded with water.

At K.R. Circle, a car was stuck after the underpass was inundated. Traffic police personnel shifted the car out and later closed the route.

Officials in the BBMP control room said a Storm Water Drain overflowed at Hosakerehalli causing flooding of roads. A driver of a vehicle had to be pulled out to safety.

At least three families reported that their homes were flooded.

Meanwhile, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) reported that more than 6,000 complaints were received while nine electric poles were damaged during the rains. Power supply was cut off in most parts of the city.

Citizens complained that it was difficult to reach both Bescom and BBMP control rooms.
