‘Raghaveshwara Bharati is potent’

November 22, 2014 12:40 pm | Updated 12:40 pm IST - Bengaluru:

The Karnataka High Court was on Friday informed that Raghaveshwara Bharati Swami of Sri Ramachandrapura Math is a “potent” person and hale and hearty. A submission in this regard was made by Senior Counsel K.G. Raghavan during the hearing of a petition filed by the seer, who has questioned the legality of the notice issued to him by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) asking him to appear for medical test in connection with the alleged sexual assault and rape case registered against him.

The petitioner-seer is not claiming that he is impotent as in the case of Nithyananda Swami [of Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam], said Mr. Raghavan, while stating that a person has to be a “complete man” to ascend to the post of a Peetadhipathi of the math.

“He [the seer] is ready to file an affidavit in this regard, if required,” the Senior Counsel told the court.

It has been contended on behalf of the seer that an accused has the right to know particulars of medical tests to ascertain whether the investigating agency was violating any of his rights, as the police or the medical practitioner has no right to extract anything from the body of a person without their consent.

Further hearing on the petition has been adjourned till November 24.
