Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil on Monday took to task the Pwd officials and the contractor entrusted with the work of building Trauma Centre in BMCRI and super-speciality block in Minto OphthalMic hospital, for the inordinate delay in completion of these buildings.

Just before dedicating new equipments worth Rs. 10 crore donated by Canara bank and Government of India at Minto OphthalMic hospital, the minister noticed that the work has been delayed by more than a year and reprimanded the contractor and officials.

Speaking at the programme the minister gave the officials a 15-day deadline for the completion of Trauma Centre and December-end deadline for the super-speciality block.

Later he told The Hindu that despite two deadlines in the past, work was still pending. He said a sum of Rs. 6 crore had been deposited with the Pwd for the work.

“This is because of incompetent contractors and lethargic officials. If they do not meet he latest deadline we will initiate action against the officials,” he said.
