PU results in third week of May

April 28, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - BENGALURU:

The II Pre-University (PU) results are likely to be announced in the third week of May.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Ratnakar said the announcement of PU results would not be delayed this year. “We announced the results on May 18 last year, and we will announce the results this year too around this time,” he said.

The Minister declined to give any fixed date as it would put more pressure on evaluators of answer scripts. Evaluation of answer scripts has been delayed more than two weeks owing to the strike by PU lecturers seeking fulfilment of various demands, including a pay hike.

He ruled out providing 21 grace marks in mathematics paper. He said grace marks would be given only in the case of questions which were out of syllabus. He said the department was considering a proposal where both SSLC and PU exams are conducted by one board. At present, two separate boards conduct examinations.

On the issue of free distribution of uniforms, textbooks and shoes and socks, he said school committees have been entrusted with that responsibility, and items would be distributed after re-opening of schools. The State Cabinet would take a decision on distribution of over five lakh bicycles to schoolchildren, he said.

Asked about shortage of teachers, he said a process for recruitment of 12,000 teachers had been completed, and the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) would issue job orders soon. A proposal had been sent to the Finance Department to recruit another 17,000 schoolteachers, Mr. Ratnakar said.
